The Union Church and Cemetery believed to be erected in 1825. Over the years many soldiers have been buried there. It was also said to have been used as a hospital and stable during the Civil War. Reuben Moore, in 1822, gave the 1/2 acre of land for the sole purpose of having a meeting house, a school house and a burying ground to be used by all Christians. Betsy Steenbergen from Mt. Airy led the effort in the building of the church. The church combined congregations from Lutheran, Episcopalian. Methodist and Brethren churches. Around the 1930s, the churches all took on their own buildings. After the church had been abandoned, the first Garden Club ladies of Mount Jackson took on the task of cleaning up the grounds. Since then, a board of trustees oversees the needs of the building and cemetery.
